The Mid-Willamette Workforce Network (MWWN) is a group of seven One-Stop Job and Career Centers covering three counties in the state of Oregon under the umbrella of Chemeketa Community College. In addition to providing employment and training services to job seekers this organization also reaches out the employers in the community offering assistance where necessary including providing regulatory information as well as specialized training to businesses. The MWWN needed a universal access system that could help them deliver Employer Services across the web.
The MWWN design-team wanted a system that would deliver services to different kinds of business people:
1) For business people who want to do their own research - Every page of Recruitment & Hiring, State Rules & Regs and Business Development materials they have in their agencies, in an easy to access layout.
2) For business people with less time, who want services handled for them by professionals - Direct connection to their nearest MWWN representative, and support throughout the entire process.
They did not want the site to look like a typical government site, but to be built for the customer. The team wanted the site designed to allow access to a large amount of material, yet not have any scrollbars and be extremely simple to use and maneuver through. They didn't want pages that appeared to be overwhelmed with text. The team wanted businesses to get access to major services in the fewest possible "clicks". Of course, serving businesses at any hour on the world-wide-web, the system should never go down.
InControl Consulting took key Employer Services managers through a requirements analysis to define the functions to be performed by the system, and how they needed to display for ease of use at deployment. Being a child system of the ELLLVIS (Employment and Life-Long-Learning Vocational Information System) product family, InControl Consulting designed a site that integrated new Web-technologies to reflect the MWWN's latest Employer Services print marketing materials while simultaneously supporting the feel of the original ELLLVIS "work-life-success" design concept. The system was deployed on an unbreakable Oracle Database/Apache Server, SSL and physical firewall.
On time and on budget, InControl Consulting deployed a comprehensive self-service solution that gets valuable information into the hands of it's business customers NOW, with integrated contact features to get help fast from any point in the process. The system consists of three sections accessible to everyone, with Recruitment, Selection and Hiring Resources, Rules, Regulations, Financial and legal matters, Training, Retention, Business Development Services, and more. The site, though large and complex, is remarkably easy to use, with immediate delivery of valuable services, and no scrollbars exist on the system's main pages.
