Taco Time International

Taco Time International is a franchise chain of Mexican fast food restaurants, with franchises in North America, Canada, Alaska and Puerto Rico. Taco Time’s existing computer solution was provided externally by an ASP, and didn't fully support management of their business processes, with new components available, but expensive and without promise of being built holistically. They decided to have a system built from the ground up to support their ability to administer franchises, and give their franchisees the ability to manage their units and meticulously track cash and sales.

Taco Time required a WEB based system that could easily be accessed anywhere at any time using a WEB browser to record and track daily transactions at franchises without placing any additional cost burdens back on the franchisee. The system needed to be accessible to restaurants, with reasonable performance considering varying connect speeds and equipment.

InControl Consulting took a design team of key upper management and users from Taco Time through an Information Strategy Planning process to define the functions performed by the enterprise. Together with this team, InControl Consulting created detailed dataflow diagrams depicting each area of business this system needed to address. Modular components were designed from those dataflow diagrams and screens were generated along with navigation that further supported the flow of the business. InControl also integrated an easy-to-use administration console for an appointed staff member to update system pop-lists and certain database items without needing technical skills. The system was deployed on an unbreakable Oracle Database/Apache Server using SSL behind a physical firewall.

InControl Consulting deployed a comprehensive solution that records and tracks information from each franchise creating dynamic reports, charts and graphs. It also provides Taco Time Corporate with dynamic reports, charts and graphs broken down for market areas, stores by ownership, or by other sort options. The system also tracks profits, which are used to generate franchise royalties. This solution required extensive customization to accommodate the client in making the user interface as intuitive as possible knowing the skills of the people doing data entry could vary widely. Navigation, security and overall behavior of the site also underwent an extensive effort to achieve the desired results, making this solution the largest and most robust version 1 product release in our company's history.
